The first weeks at a new school are tiring for children, even when they are happy. These simple habits help them settle faster.
Before the first day
- Walk or drive the route to school together a few times
- Label everything, and let your child help
- Practise the morning routine in the last week of the holidays
In the first weeks
- Ask about one good thing each day, not “how was school?”
- Keep afternoons quiet and bedtimes early
- Tell the class teacher about anything that worries your child
Most children are settled by half term. If yours is not, talk to us early — that is what we are here for.
Our class teachers call every new family after two weeks to see how things are going.
